
I am 24 and have 2 kids ages 5 and 1. in august i started feeling symptoms of depression(severe) thoughts of bad things, nightmares,tiredness,dizziness,over eating etc. I am usually ok but havent been eating right lately and been under a lot of stress lately. Do u think that a vitamin deficiency could cause depression like this? I have muscle weakness associated with low iron also. what home remedies will help? thx

My doctor put me on Zoloft for depression after I lost my baby girl at 21 weeks, and he told me to start also taking vitamin B-6
It’s possible, though I don’t know enough about particular vitamins to be sure. More broadly, if you’re eating a lot of processed carbs (e.g. bread, snacks) and sugar, that can affect your mood without vitamins even being the issue.
Go to WebMD - - and search “depression” and/or “vitamin” on their site. It’s a really good site and should tell you a lot.
Vitamin B is generally for fatigue, but it only helps if you are lacking vitamin B in the first place. There is some herbal stuf over the counter called St. John’s Wart. It generally makes you in a better mood, but dont expect it to be an antidepressant. If you need an antidepressant you need to speak to a doctor or mental health specialist. there isnt anything else you can take without a prescription. As for prescription drugs, the most common used are SSRI’s (Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Prozac, so on and so forth). But they need to be monitored by a doctor.
make sure you are getting enough vitamin B-12. It is found in animal products, like meat, milk, and eggs. If you don’t get enough of it, take a supplement.
Other vitamins that help with depression are selenium (there is plenty of it in Brazil Nuts) and magnesium. Basically, you probably would be well off, for now, to take a good multi-vitamin. If you take one designed for women, it should have what you need, I would think.
Stress alone can cause depression though. Especially along with the stress, you are not eating and sleeping right. Control the things you can control. Eat right, sleep right. Think positive thoughts. If the depression doesn’t get better, please see a good psychiatrist and counsellor.
